Decorative Stained Tile

pinned there

This post of “Pinned There, Done That, Wrote the Post” is a bit of a different one. I have a Quote Board where I keep things I want to vinyl some day, or that I think would be a great add to a card. For this particular quote I had pinned (the original source has since been deleted), I wanted to step away from vinyl for a moment and use it in a different light. I had my post about Stamped Coasters on my mind, and although that tutorial was mostly for using rubber stamps I did use vinyl as stencil. So I decided to take that to a much larger scale for this quote. I created a decorative stained tile, sized 12×12, perfect for a music room or as a gift to your kid’s music teacher!

Where Words Fail, Music Speaks stained tile

Here’s how I stained the tile- Using my CAMEO, I cut out a stencil in vinyl using premium grade vinyl to reduce ink bleeding. I placed it on my tile where I wanted it, and using StazOn ink covered the entire stencil area.

Stained Tile

StazOn can be expensive ($8 or so) but it is the easiest way I’ve found. It also helps if your tile is not a textured piece.¬†Once it was completely dry, I removed the vinyl.

Not only does it give it a more authentic look than just vinyl alone, but the deeper stains in some places really add a nice swirl effect.

LOVING HOW YOU DID THIS! I love the texture and depth that ink can do.
