My toddler gets her sleep habits from me. We both sleep walk, sleep talk, and sleep swim (I’m telling ya, we toss and turn so much we swim in the sheets!). When she gets nightmares and comes in our bed, it’s an elbow to the eye, knee to the gut, toes to the nose kind of experience. When we moved her into her toddler bed earlier this year, it was standard to see her asleep half off the bed. Her toddler bed came with half rails, but it was clear we needed full length rails. My solution, DIY Toddler Bed Rails using pool noodles. It’s my cross between crib sides and toddler bed sides, to ensure this doesn’t happen again:
They are on sale right now due to the summer being over. I scored 2 for $4- but I’m sure you can find them at the dollar store. We just don’t have one close to me. I let my daughter pick the colors- her options were pink or green. She wanted both. I needed two. Win-Win.
To make the noodles the length of the bed, I cut about 6 inches off using just your standard craft scissors (it actually was a lot easier than I thought it would be!). I pulled back both her sheet and her mattress protector on one end of the mattress, and shoved the noodles right up the side. Then remade her bed.
My daughter cracks me up. I simply asked her to crawl in bed so I can take a picture of how the noodles look when she’s in it… the ham wanted to pretend as if she was sleeping. Fake snoring and all.
She’s had her first nap in the bed since I’ve added them and so far it’s a keeper!
In a post later this week, I will show you what you can do with your left over 6 inches of pool noodle- DON’T THROW THEM AWAY 🙂
