DIY Travel Size Flannel Story Board

13 Feb

I couldn’t just stop with one DIY Flannel Story, so I made another. I’m renaming this project as the DIY Travel Size Flannel Story Board because we’ve been bringing these along with us in the car quiet often as of late. This time, I got my story set from the website. I chose The Wise Man and The Foolish Man because Jolene is obsessed with that primary song. If you missed my tutorial, you can find it here. It’s a simple 3 step process!

What you’ll need:

  1. Felt Squares- I used 1 square for the board and 5 squares for the story pieces. However, because this is a downloadable story really you can print it in any size you want- enlarge or shrink it for your needs.
  2. Iron-On T-Shirt Transfer ($12 for 5 sheets at Wal-mart. I’ve used both the “Dark T-Shirt Fabric” kind and the “Light Fabric” kind and I prefer the dark fabric one. It will allow you to use whatever color felt you have handy, where as if you use the light fabric kind, you are pretty much stuck with white felt.)
  3. Velcro Envelope

And then of course if you want to get technical, I also needed an iron and a printer.

Once I printed out the story onto my fabric transfer sheets, I ironed them onto my felt squares. Let it cool before you try to peel off the transfer paper. I cut around the figures. Next, using adhesive spray, I glued a felt square to the front of a Velcro Envelope. This created both storage and a hard surface board for playing on.

This time I printed the scripture story with it. She already knows the song, so now we can teach her where in the scriptures it is found too.

The story summary is like this:

Christ said, “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
“And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” (Matt. 7:24-27.)

Again, these pieces were found free on, or you may just download the pdf file here:
