Father’s Day Wreath

16 Jun

I whipped up my first wreath for Father’s Day. It’s not perfect, but I was determined to use unconventional materials to make it so considering that, I’d say it’s pretty cool! First off, it’s square- not round. It also is 3D! Ready to take a look?

What you’ll need:

Pipe Insulation
Duct Tape
Hot Glue
Vinyl Stickers
Cardstock or other thick paper

I used pipe insulation as the base. I wanted this wreath to be unique and square so I ventured away from the foam circle.
After duct taping the insulation into the form, I covered the form with mustache duct tape that I got on clearance at Wal-Mart for $2. This particular wreath used the whole roll of duct tape! I couldn’t believe it. I could have even used a second roll but because I got it on clearance I didn’t want to risk finding a second.
I cut a mustache out of my black felt, and hot glued the edges leaving one side open. I stuffed the mustache with leftover felt shreds, then sealed the opening with hot glue. I fastened it to the bottom of the wreath with, you guessed it, hot glue! (I don’t anticipate this wreath lasting very long, it was just a spontaneous idea I ran with).
I created a diagonal banner with ribbon across the top.
At first, I made the banner with blue felt, but after consulting with my design student sister we decided it needed a brighter effect. So I used one of my favorite free materials ever- paint chip swatches!

Using my silhouette, I made the banner outline and letters in vinyl. The font I used is called Eccentric Std and the banner outline I created on my own. I love it, I think it kind of looks like a superman set up. I put the vinyl on paint chip swatches from the paint department at Wal-Mart.
To hang the wreath, I used a technique I saw on Pinterest from a blog called Lemonade. I put a command hook upside down on the inside of the door.

So while on the inside you see this, on the outside it just hangs from a ribbon:

And that pretty  much sums up how I made my first wreath ever- my Father’s Day Wreath! It’s a little cooky, but I love it.
