Homemade Bathtub Paint

pinned there

On my “Munchkin To-Do’s” board, I had pinned a recipe for homemade bathtub paint. The recipe calls for about a 1/3 a cup of shaving cream per 2-3 drops of food coloring. I have been very curious about this. Some people have said it stained their grout, others said it stained their kid’s skin, while most said those people are crazy and neither happened to them. I wasn’t too concerned about staining our grout, mostly because we don’t have grout! Haha. We have that builder grade one-piece thing in our showers, and caulk along the edges. I took a muffin tin and filled 6 spots with shaving cream (I didn’t measure, I winged it. I’m a rebel like that). For the yellow color I used 3 drops of food coloring because 2 wasn’t bright enough. For blue, red and green I used 2 drops. When I tried mixing purple, I had used 2 drops of blue and 2 drops of red. My daughter called it black and she was happy with black, but I wasn’t going to make the same mistake for orange. I mixed orange with 1 drop yellow and 1 drop red.

I let her use a foam brush because it was wider and would pick up more foam than a regular paint brush.

She’s a very serious artist as you can see. We tested it on her skin- no staining. We tested it on our caulk- no staining. This was a very fun activity that, for us, washes right off.

Disclaimer: these were my results. I’m not responsible for any results that you get that differ from my opinion and outcome.

UPDATE 9/21/12

I now make this one 1 drop food coloring per 1/3ish cup shaving cream. It makes the colors pastel and I don’t feel like I’m making a mess or wasting it.
