Homemade Gel Air Freshener

8 Oct

I feel like I’m on a Gelatin kick lately. I’ve posted my Gel Window Clings, my Homemade Fruit Snacks, and today I have a Homemade Gel Air Freshener recipe for you. I was pretty skeptical of this at first. My experience with store bought gel air fresheners hasn’t been so great, so I thought maybe if I could control the strength of the scent I might be in better luck. In a way, I was right! As a preface though, my gel air fresheners dissolved within 2 weeks. Granted they are smaller than the store bought I’ve had before, they just seem to disappear much faster.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Small jar (I used baby food jars and an empty jam jar)
2 tsp scent (I used what I had left over from my bath fizz recipe)
2 boxes of unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup cold water
Food coloring if you’d like- I did one without, and one with blue food coloring. The one without looked clear as I poured it in, but dried yellow.

SLOWLY (I stress slowly, because you may risk getting clumps that will not dissolve) mix the unflavored gelatin and the 1/2 cup of hot water until the gelatin is dissolved. Stir in Fragrance and food coloring. Add cold water. Leave uncovered in a cool place. It may take overnight. I wish I could tell you how long mine took but I left shortly after this process for my mom’s house and it was done when I returned several hours later. So, sometime between 0 and 6 hours mine was done. Cover with air tight lid for 12 hours before opening to freshen room. When not in use, return lid to cover. I suppose mine went so fast because I only put the lid back on when we were going to bed…? None the less, I loved these!
