Have I ever mentioned we live in an apartment? A 1031 sq ft 2 bedroom apartment. We upgraded, from an 836 sq ft 2 bedroom… which we upgraded from a 679 sq ft 1 bedroom, which we upgraded from a 400 sq ft studio. At this rate, I’ll get my ranch style 4 bedroom 2.5 bath by the time I’m 57! Wahoo! Just kidding….

Living in an apartment with a baby is not fun. I do not recommend it to anyone. Mainly because you can’t predict whether or not your child will have Colic or any other health issues for that matter. Which, we’ve happened to have our fair share of it all. But without getting into details of my personal live (too late!) let me make my point and get on with the story.

The other day, after a long battle staying up all night with Jo, I had finally gotten her to sleep at 3pm… yes, the first time to bed since her afternoon nap the day before. I quietly shut the bedroom door, then crawled into bed myself trying to catch some Z’s. Literally 15 minutes later, there was a knock on the (metal) apartment door. I jumped up, checked on Jo- she rolled over but from what I could see was still asleep thank goodness!
I peeked through the peep hole and saw an AT&T salesman. Hmmmm, no thanks. I crawled back in bed but before my head hit the pillow, he knocked again. SHHHHHH I thought. I ran to check Jo, she was stirring. Great. Before I could even leave her room, the guy was knocking again! WHAT???
I opened the door without hiding my annoyance, only to find an over eager and very loud salesman. He had no volume button, I couldn’t find it. He said “HI! I’m Tony with AT&T–” I cut him off “Sorry, I’m not interested–” he cuts me off “I see you have Charter as your cable provider” “Wrong. We don’t have Cable. And we’re not interested” Still, in his loud voice “OH really? (looks at sheet on clipboard) because I show you have Charter” “Yeah well what you show is wrong because we gave up cable 9 months ago—” baby starts to cry. “And you just woke up my baby who hasn’t slept in 24 hours. Thank you very much, never come back.” Door shut. Through the door, I kid you not, THROUGH the door I hear him say “Okay I’ll just leave you my card…” “NO! I’M NOT INTERESTED!!!!!!!!!!!” Okay so I didnt really yell that last part… or say it for that matter. I’m not THAT rude. But I sure was boiling mad.
The next day, guess who came back? Yep. I let him knock 4 times, I didn’t care. I wasn’t answering the door.

So, my solution:

No Soliciting SignIt’s been up for a full 5 hours so far. It seems to be working. And Jolene finally got her naps uninterrupted.

Oh my gosh! I would be livid! You know, I realize that we all need to make money, but there really is a (fine) line between soliciting and harassing. And, I’d say he crossed that line. This is how I feel about sales calls. We get them 24/7 even though we have put ourselves on that no call list. And, the thing is ….so many can be so rude. After you tell them you are not interested…they go on and on trying to ask you questions. You hate to just hang up on them, but sometimes they give you no choice. I think I would add to your sign…”sleeping baby that you better not wake up or else you will see the unleashed furry of a sleep deprived mother and it aint gonna be pretty and all of this will be at your own risk!”

HAHAHAHHAHA Sena I love it. Maybe I will. “Beware of sleep deprived new mother: Knock at your own risk”…. of course I’ll add flourish as to make it look sweet when really its not! hahaha jk

It is wonderful. Now, if I could find a way to attach a sign like that for all to read who call me a zillion times a day from faraway lands…selling who knows what. I need to do this for my door as well.

Not kidding – how can I buy one? We just got a sign from Home Depot and it’s hideous (though getting the job done).
