Photoshop Tip: High Pass

23 Mar

I had some photos my dad took that were really cute but kind of too “soft” and some even, out of focus it seemed. My husband showed me a trick that doesn’t necessarily fix it but can make it look a heck of a lot better. I’ll show you what it is…

Here’s my original:

And now for the screen shot step by step. Here it goes!

What you first want to do is create a new layer or “duplicate layer”
Photoshop Tip: High Pass
You can name it if you want, but I just always click “ok”
Photoshop Tip: High Pass
In the drop down menu at the top, hover over “Filter” >> “Other” >> “High Pass”
Photoshop Tip: High Pass
It is going to pop up in this sort of over contrasted/negative tone. In the pop up window, adjust the radius so that it is overly sharp but not negative toned anymore. You’ll have to play with it to get what you want.

Click “ok” and in the right hand navigation box, change the drop down menu to “over lay”

The last step is to adjust the opacity until you get the mix that fits your fancy.
