For me, nothing screams “SUMMER!” like a yummy Rice Krispie Treat. Now that summer is coming to an end, I’m desperately trying to get all my Rice Krispie Treat fixes in. This treat has a lot of history is “Mandyville”. My mom used to make these for Valentine’s Day, and dye them pink. She’d either make smaller ones for our lunches, or else make huge ones and set them at our place settings at the table. We’re a very festive family. I’m going to show you how we make Rice Krispie Treat Kisses in our household.
First things first, our Rice Krispie Treat recipe:
1- 16 ounce bag of marshmallows
1/2 a stick of butter or margarine
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
About 7 or 8 cups of Rice Krispies (you really have to just eye it)
In a microwave safe bowl, add your butter and marshmallows. Microwave for 60 seconds, then stir. Microwave for 30-60 more seconds, or until mixture is melted, stir. Add vanilla extract, stir. Slowly add your Rice Krispies, stirring as you add.
While it is still warm, you’ll want to do this next part. I use a funnel to help make the form, but my mom always just did it by hand:
Spoon mixture into funnel (you don’t need to pack it tight, that will make it harder to get out). Lay a piece of foil down on your work space. Firmly flop the funnel onto the foil, wide side down. Wiggle the funnel as you pull up, to loosen the treat from the form. Crinkle your foil as you wrap your treat, and add your special message.
This is just one easy way of “dressing up” one of the easiest and most liked treats out there. It’s not only good for Valentine’s Day, but any special occasion where you need to send some love!
